Help me help my brother please.
Hi all, i am really just a visitor to your site, but i need a little help. i am driving up to D.C. this weekend to try to fix my brother's 93 240. a couple of months ago during the blizzard there someone broke into his car with a screwdriver and used it to start the car to use the heater. needless to say, the ignition lock cylinder and drivers side door lock are destroyed. i got a kit from the dealer to replace all locks on the car so that he wont have 3 or 4 different keys. the trunk and doorlocks are easy. my question is about the ignition lock cylinder. i was hoping someone could give me an idea of the tools i am gonna need to get it out. is it as simple as removing all the shrouding around the steering wheel, putting the key to run, and depressing a pin to get it to come out, or will i have to pull the entire steering wheel off? being as i live about 4 hours away, and my brother is basically broke and wont be able to buy any of the tools i forget, any help on what i will need would be greatly appreciated. thank you for any help you can give me.
to add some info, the kit i bought came with the whole steering lock assembly. my hope is that i can just pull out the lock cylinder and swap those, as opposed to taking out the whole assembly, which i think would be a major PITA. once again, any help would be great. thanks
Guy on here named Tech will probably be your best source of information (I'm just good at driving them and tearing them up). He usually is on in the evening hours. Wish I could help but you're way beyond my abilities.
I referred to this guide when I replaced the ignition lock cylinder on my car. Although it is not the exact or same car model, it is quite similar so I hope you can use it. This might help: http://volvo2.homestead.com/Ignlock.html
