Hi I am new to the forum but have been checking it out for a while. I have a 94 940 turbo with just over a 100k miles. It sat for five years before I bartered for it three years ago. It has run great with just a few minor issues. About a month ago it started smoking like crazy. I determined it was a blown head gasket. I got everything back together last night and started it up. it smoked as bad if not worse than before. I drove it up the street and it didn't run right. I had forgotten to put one of the clamps back on the air supply hose to the turbo and it had come off. I also have a bad leak where the metal line runs into the water pump. So my question is would that have anything to do with it smoking so bad? I haven't been able to fix the water leak yet and that leads to another question. How the heck do I get that line to seal up? I put the fat rubber gasket on the line and slid it into the pump while I was bolting the pump down. Is there a trick to this. I should also mention that I took the head to a head shop and they planed, cleaned and tested it and said everything looked great.

is it blue (oil) or white (steam) smoke?
you definitely need to fix that coolant pipe, and probably should double check everything else you did.
otherwise, I dunno what to say. sure you torqued the head down correctly? did you use a Volvo brand head gasket, or something else? ditto the water pump seals, the volvo ones just work, others can be sketchy.
friends don't let friends use Uro parts.

Did you have a bad HG? Did you take a compression test before doing it?
Smoke, assuming it is smoke and not steam, could be from burning oil or too much fuel.
First thing I'd have checked is the turbocharger itself--it's oil and water cooled and the smoke happens usually due to bad gasket inside the unit casing oil burn.
The water pump needs to be redone, sounds like you are having a problem with the heater pipe rubber donut O ring that seals into the pump? There's no magic to it, I put the o ring on the pipe, slide the pump onto the studs, making sure it all fits well. Did you clean well all the surfaces? The pipe end? I use a little petroleum jelly especially on the bigger O ring that seals up to the head, that's the one that most often leaks after a couple of years.

Update-I got the two leaks fixed and now it is blowing blue smoke like crazy. I understand the 940 doesn't have a pvc valve so it can't be that???? The head shop said everything was good with the head. I thought the smoke was clearing up but today it sat at a downward slope for about 8 hours. When I went to drive it it smoked up the neighborhood. Any thoughts?

My assumption would be the turbo. My 740 Turbo burns some oil every once in a while. One way to check is too see if you have oil in the intercooler. If there is oil there, then you will have tp rebuild the turbo or replace the turbo all together. Rebuilding the turbo will be difficult and may cost a couple hundred dollars at the most. You will also have to go to a machine shop that is capable of balancing the turbo because the turbos can spin up to 100, 000 RPM. Buying another turbo from Volvo or a company that has Volvo parts will cost you between 750 to 1300 dollars.

Hi!
My Volvo is S60 2012 T5 118.000 miles.
I bought this car in December 2018 (95.000 miles) and It works fine until now. I did regular maintenance (oil and break).
Last week was changed oil and filter in a shop.
My issue started yesterday.
I was driving and suddenly my car broked down. I had to tow it to my house.
Today, I can start it but I don't feel comfortable drive until to the garage.
I did a short video were showing up white smoke and leaking oil from exhaustion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUnp...ature=youtu.be
Any idea of the issue size?
Does anyone know what happens?
Thanks.

um, a 2012 S60 is not a 240/740/940, and has a *completely* different engine, this really should be in a different forum section.
That said, white smoke is a sign of coolant getting into the combustion chamber, oil dripping from the gas is a sign of excess oil getting in there too (oil often makes blue smoke). I'd hazard to guess you've either blown the head gasket, or the turbo has blown its seals. the way its puffing leads me to suspect its the head gasket. I would not drive it at ALL, tow it to the garage if you don't want to risk further engine damage.
