How much should I expect to pay for...
...replacement ball joints on a 1987 240DL?
I just dropped a little under a grand for wheel bearings and a few other things, but the ball joints are almost shot, and I don't want to shell out another $365 if that's too much ($165 parts, $170 labor). I've looked through my Chilton's and know that I don't have the skills to do it myself, but it would seem that 2 hours labor may be a bit high.
Thanks for any info/insight!

AllData calls for .7 hours per side. It's typical for shops to round up to the next full hour so 2 hours is close to right. We always round up on estimates but if it goes text book perfect we can often come in under the estimate. We much prefer our customers to be pleasantly surprised than p.o.'d because the bill is $30 more than estimated. The ball joints retail for roughly $58 each...we typically sell them for $45 each. So...the parts prices you were quoted are quite high. AllData shows Volvo ball joints to only be $70 each.
