daughter said she thinks she saw the light come on the dash that looks like a light bulb with a question mark inside it and lines coming out all around it...what is that? yeah I know I need a book

 

bulb somewhere is burned out. Usually turn signal or part of tail light assembly. Have someone look while you step on brake pedal, operate turn signal, etc. mine was a turn signal.

 

sometimes when the light bulbs aren't changed at the same time the light will sporadically come on and off at random times, something to do with one light bulb being newer than another, despite them both working fine. if the light came on once and didnt come on again then its probably that, but still do check all the lights.
