Default IAC sensor eary 88 240

I know the iac sensor, that is the sensor mounted in the block below the temperature gauge sensor in the head is broken. All the part number pictures seem to have a two prong sensor. I have an early88 car.

I have a one prong sensor. Got a correct part number, or was this car Mcgivered?

The broken sensor in the block is the early style knock sensor. 1317296. If you trace that wire back it goes to the ignition control unit The two sensors in the head - the singe wire one in the front is for the gauge the other one in the back of the head is for the fuel injection system. What problem are you trying to solve?

I had a temp gauge problem that turned out to be the board. Got it working.
What makes this thing priced like platinum? It's just a piezo electric current generating device. Thanks for your rapid reply.

If the car runs fine leave it alone. Why is it $$ - maybe supply and demand? Last year used was ~1988

The Pezio electric knock sensor under severe load conditions would generate a current that in the end would retard the spark?

As the great and oft quoted philosopher Popeye once said "Leave well enough alone".

Thanks for the input.

Well - without the knock sensor your timing will not be correct. I don't know if the ECU automatically retards the timing if the sensor is missing so as to not damage your engine (seems like the logical thing to do). If that's the case then the only symptom will be poorer mileage and performance.

A little chilly today 28F with a wind chill to go junk yarding. Good point on the default.

I just got the car a month ago and am having to go thru a bunch of hack repairs, non repairs, and bungles. No idea what the mpg is. Just bought my first full tank of gas.

One problem with estate cars is that sometimes the little old lady was getting taken to the cleaners by her mechanics. Filthy no name filters, dirty flame trap. Yucky brake fluid.
