idle stabilizer( 86 LH jet)
i have been running my 'new' Lh jet on my 84 spider for the past 2 months now. wonderfull system, shure beats the old L jet , that came with the car..but one thing i cannot get to work, , the idle stabilizer, it is hooked up . but it doe's not work, so i got 1 extra..nope.. doe's this thing need the org. igntion to work? thanks
you've got an idle switch on your throttle thats closed when its idle, and this is hooked up to the LH2.2 ECU pin 12? you have the idle air controller hooked up to either side of the throttle body? the IAC gets its power on pin 4 from the same relay as the fuel pumps, and pins 3 and 5 are hooked up to ECU pins 10 and 23 respectively, the ECU alternately grounds one or the other of those to open or close the idle air.
unplug the IAC, and use the throttle body air bypass screw to set the engine to idle at 500rpm when its warmed up and in neutral, then when the IAC is plugged in, it should idle at 700rpm, regardless of the accessory load (AC or whatever, assuming an Alfa even has such things). if you have an AC, your AC compressor relay should be connected to pin 16 on the ECU, this tells the ECU that the AC is coming on, so it can boost the idle. if you don't have an AC, pin 16 shoudl be connected to switched power, same as pin 18.
the only connections to the Volvo ICU (ignition controller) are A) ICU pin 8 goes to ECU pin 1 and this provides the timing signal, and B) the full throttle switch goes to both the ECU pin 3 and ICU pin 7.
(my ICU pins are for the Chrysler ICU used in 1987/88 Volvo 240s).
