Default Installation of a volt gauge? Pictures to reference from.

So i've recently bought a volt gauge off ebay and i've been working on wiring it up because it didn't come with any sort of harness. I'll add pictures so you all can see what i'm talking about and can further direct me in how to wire this guy up.

First, I wired a groud. I attached it to a screw and plugged it in to the harness. Thats done. Now I need a positive 12volts. However, I unplugged the positive from my mini clock to see if I would get a response from the volt meter. I didn't get one. I don't know why. Maybe I need to plug the volt meter power in too? Thats where my question is. The volt meter also has two more plugs on a black plug looking thing and I don't know what they're for. What should I plug into there? Power? lights? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Patrick

Post.Script: the plug hanging out of the volt meter slot is the ground connection.

All I did with mine was I tapped into the power wire going to the cigarette lighter (because it's only hot when the key is on) and then I hooked the wire for the light into my light switch. All works fine. Hope this helps...

Tapping into cigarette lighter plug for power is fine but if you use the same source for light , then the light is going to be on all the time and you don't want that. Go behind the temp. control panel and tap into one of the light plugs . They only turn on when you have the lights on and that's the way is supposed to be.
