Was wondering how many miles you have on your 89 Volvo 740 GL wagon? We bought our 89 740 GL wagon new in 1988 and it's now at 235,000 with the original 4 banger engine and original auto transmission still chugging along.........I'm particularly amazed about the transmission lasting so long. Some mechanics have told me, however, that 740s was one of the best built Volvos and are built like a tank. We had a spare set of 16 inch tires that fit our V70 and decided to replace the 15 inch metal wheels/tires on the 740 with a set of re-manufactured OEM Volvo Hydra Alloy 16 inch wheels.......got a good deal on them from an online national wheel dealer for $131 each......the Volvo Dealer's price for new ones is near $300. I also found a good deal for the OEM wheel caps for the Volvo Hydra wheels at Swedishautoparts.com for 16.26 each......dealer and other places they're $21 -$24. In case you or anyone else on this Forum is interested, the following is a link to a Year 2000 Volvo Wheels Bulletin that has all the Volvo wheel options for the older and newer model Volvos.......it's a good reference document for someone wanting to research the Volvo OEM wheels made for these vehicles: http://ostroff.org/volvo/alloy_wheels.pdf

Default mileage

Well as far as mileage te car has only 111K on it. Original and no replacement gauge cluster either. It just the regular b230F engine. This was my 1st venture into european cars. Im usually a Jap car person. Had quite a few with extremely high mileage on them. (1985 Toyota Supra with 275K on it before it was retired) Wiring up 70's and 80's Jap cars are easy for gauges. Never attempted a Euro car and I like being able to see a gauge rather than rely on idiot lights.
