intermittent hesitation, stalling, check engine light!
Hi, My name is Wallace. This is my first time on this site. I have a 90' 240 Dl wagon. I have had an intermittent
problem with severe hesitation when trying to accelerate when driving. Sometimes it actually dies out when I let
off the gas to exit the highway from 70mph off of a long stretch of road. Yesterday I had to pull off the road &
wait because it would not go. It just continued to bogg down. It never died out, I eventually was able to revv the
engine high while sitting there & it seemed to clear up. The "^" shift arrow did start flashing when It began the
hesitation & the "check" engine light came on & stayed on & stays on even now all the time. The car runs well when
it wants to. I took it in to a volvo shop about 6 months ago & they found a trouble code that was an "emissions"
problem. THey cleared the code reset the "service" light & it has ran fine until now. The guy said that it is
common for the exhaust pipe to get a small hole in it under the heat shield & this could suck in fresh air
confusing the sensors & computer. He said there was no way to know for sure & he would just be replacing parts &
may still not get the right one. I saw some similar problems on the forrum here & some seemed to think that the
fuses & fuel pump relay could be it. But mine doesn't always die out & when it does it seems to start up right
away. I would really appreciate some ideas on this. I can't afford to continue to take it to the shop & could
probably fix it myself if I could figure out what to fix! I wold also like to know the best place to get a service
manual & parts. Thanks for any help!
