Default late 80s 240GL side trim...

on our 1987 240GL (400k miles, original owners, currently our teen's car), some of the pieces of black + chrome side trim is splitting, where the bottom half of the black rubber is hanging down. the car is out of town now, so I can't take any pictures of this.

should I...
  1. glue or doublestick the old stuff back in place
  2. find some generic door molding stuff and redo the whole car
  3. bend over at the stealer and order oem molding strips (available?)
  4. whaaa?

enquiring minds want to know.

I believe that IPD sells some sort of generic replacement trim. The original trim pretty much sucks anyway.

Default door trim

If you're talking about the rocker panel trim or molding near the bottom of the door IPD does not sell it nor does anyone else i've found. I've been looking for the same thing for quite a while. IPD sells a self adhesive door trim kit, but its for the thinner trim in the center of the door. I've been using glue to keep mine in place until i can find a replacement set. Good luck.

yeah, I'm talking about the thin trimstrip along the beltline.

I dunno, but if the bottom trim stuff starts to crap out, I think I'd pull it all off and spray on a layer of rhino-liner

That bottom trim really sucks anyway. Pretty sure that IPD has the other stuff. Give them a call!

yeah, they have a version of the 1/2 round kinda generic black rubber stuff like that site I linked above. but said site above has a wider selection of proves. I do think if I decide to re-dress our 240, I'll measure the flat where the molding goes on teh doors, and get the widest and thickest stuff that fits comfortably, heh.
