im leaking what i would expect is fuel due to the smell. i havent looked closely but its coming from the back end of the car towards the gas tank. what confuses me is that it only leaks when the car is on. doesnt have to be moving, just running. and when it is it just pours out. is that the fuel pump? or the gas tank? im not overly mechanically inclined but if possible id love to save money by fixing it myself.

 

sounds like the gas tank might be rusted through?

Sounds like the fuel line or the return. Look under the car while it's leaking, the fault should be obvious.

BTW What car is it?

 

"It pours out"? Then it should be easy to see from where it's coming. Once u see where it is, it should be easy to fix.
