Leaking Rear Freeze Plugs
Hi All,
Newbie here! '94 940 wagon non-turbo 232.000 miles. Runs well, no oil consumption, etc.
The car has developed a fairly severe coolant leak/drip from the rear of the engine. No external leaks at the water pump or head gasket. Thought maybe transfer pipe, heater control valve or related hoses.
Today, I got the care up on a lift and was able to do a thorough examination of those items and found them all to be dry. The coolant was clearly dripping from the bell housing. I assume there are freeze plug(s) in the rear of the block and wondering if one of those could be the source of the leak.
Anyone have any experience with these freeze plugs leaking and, if so, replacement of same? Engine out, transmission out, etc?
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum.
My suggestion is if you have a problem with your car post the question under your cars section as you're much more likely to get another owner who knows what you are talking about than posting it in "New Member".

the freeze plugs are on the side of the block. but they rarely fail.
Heater hoses are far more likely, that or a coolant seepage out a soon-to-be-blown head gasket below exhaust ports 3-4. my 92 had a plastic heater valve ('chevy style') that failed and wasn't obvious at all.
a coolant system pressure test would verify the heater hoses are good, and probably let you track the leak down.
