Default Lets have some fun

Ok i just got into a big argument with my buddy about Hondas and Volvos. He owns a 96 prelude and i own a 91 740 turbo. We got into it about whos car will last longer ( i honestly dont plan on keeping my car for more than 5 years but thats not saying it will just up and die). Anyway we got into it and i would just like to know you guys oppnion about the life of a honda as compared to a volvo. ??? Thanks.

The 740 Will end up with at least 300Kmiles, and most likely 400K, the honda will possibly do 200K, maybe 250K.

Time is not an issue, they are 5 years apart.

I say it all depends on how you maintain each one. Both cars will last a long time, they are known for it. However to do this you need to maintain them properly.

I would say the 740. The Honda's are known to have the Valve seals go bad way before the Volvo's.
Alot of average people won't ever notice they are leaking till it is to late.

Well said tech. It really depends on how well u maintain the car and how well the car is built. speaking of leaks, i have to find where my toyota is leaking oil from.. i fixed the dist. o-ring seal now is from somewhere else.. somewhere near intake manifold. have to find out.

they are both good cars, but the volvo has a lower mean piston speed and all other things being equal i think the volvo will last longer. (this IS a volvo forum)

i like and own honda and a volvo. as to which will last longer? the 96 lude ant the best of honda. if it was a 91 civic with a d-series or a b-series it would be closer. it might be safe to say that hondas get pushed to their limit more that a volvo. one thing i prefer about volvo(92 and earlier) is how strong the body and paint are, they just wont rust out.

I think both cars would last equally as long given the correct maintenance. If your buddy has the h23/h22 in his prelude I'd say his 5th gear (if it's a manual) will take a **** long before the engine does.
