Is there anything that is known to go wrong with theses? Things I should pay close attention to when test driving? Anything would help me out. Thank you!

Not if it's been maintained right. How many miles? If it's been overheated sometimes the aluminum head will warp. It don't like too much heat. Other than that the engine is nearly indestructible. You can assume all the suspension bushings will need replacement but that's not a big deal. Watch for body rust, particularly around the windshield. What geographic location?

When test driving it...push the car hard and see how it behaves. You should get a good Idea of what will be wrong after/during the test drive.

Its in Peach Tree city. About 45 min south of Atlanta. 150,000miles. Would I be able to tell by looking at the block/head if it has been over heated?

I think 240s came from factory with 100,000 miles so that's not an issue, as far as chronic problems, where do I being???
I think any car starts to have issues after a few decades and 100,xxx miles, it's just the 240s mechanical systems are so robust, they outlast the electrical.

One problem is some electrical systems, unlike the mechanical parts which are visible, dependably can be an function of time, not use.

The short answer is, I would have reputable VOLVO shop look over the car first. Even if you're buying a beater, it would be worth the hour a shop may charge, and many will do it for free because they KNOW you're going to eventually need their services.

Good luck

these cars are reliable with general upkeep and maintenance. Just remember its not a sports car....things that i have found over the last yr with my 2 volvo 240 wagons are fuel pump relay, front suspension. nothing major. and this is with 250,000 miles. the other has 150,000 miles
