I'm new to the Volvo marque and need some advice. I'd like to purchase a second car, which will be used for daily commuting (10 miles/day).

When looking a used 240s what do I need to focus on? Any areas of specific concern (i.e. engine, tranny, suspension, body rust...)?

I have my eye on two.
1. 1992 240 GL Sedan: One owner, 153000 miles, auto, loaded, all service records, 150k service with timing belt, no rust, asking $3500.

2. 1993 240 Sedan: 136000 miles, auto, all service records, loaded, asking $3355.

It looks like you lucked into TWO vehicles that have the most important thing to look for, service and maintenance records. If they are verifiable ( receipts, dealer stamps etc) and updated, then pick the one with the nicest color or interior after taking a test drive to make sure no clunks or bad tranny shifts, blowing smoke . I would probably go for the one owner car if it checked out.

 

I'd run a Carax or Autocheck on them too. Something might turn up that will help you in making a decision.
