Default Low temp after ac retrofit

89 volvo 240 had an ac retrofit today at a non volvo shop. Drove it around for about 30 minutes and the temp gauge is running low. Thought it was a stuck thermostat, so I changed it. No help, still running low. The fan is running all the time. Any connection with the retrofit? Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Here in Texas, I typically wire the auxillary fan to the cmpressor so that it runs whenever the compressor runs. The stock Volvo radiator sensor in the radiator has such a high threshold before it kicks on that it is nearly worthless. If you were running the a/c and the fan was running non stop, this could explain your issue. Was it reading cooler w/o the a/c running? The average temp gauge reading on later 240's is the 9 o'clock position. Where was/is yors?
Another explanation could be the shop did a thorough job and cleaned the condensor fins of 20 years worth of stuff. I guess it all depends on where your temp gauge was before and now.

When I took it to the shop before the retrofit, it was at 9 o'clock steady, no issues.

With the ac off, **** turned all the way counterclockwise and blower off, as well as the ac turned on, it's at about 7 o'clock. Just ordered another tstat.

I'll go back to the shop tomorrow and ask if they wired the fan to the compressor. Thanks!
