Obviously magic doesn't exist, but I think this is interesting, and so I'm sharing it with everyone. I put a new (used) turn signal switch in my car to fix my lack of high beams. Now my high beams work (YAY in itself) but get this!
Before I put the switch in, a few of my warning lights (parking brake, battery, etc) would illuminate when I turned my headlights on, and fluctuate in brightness with my RPM. Ever since the new stalk is in, that doesn't happen anymore, and my gauge cluster is functioning fairly well (minus a temperature gauge going up and down).
But tonight, my faulty brake light decided to start working. I'd replaced the light, the bulb, and checked the wiring, and nothing made it work. But I hit my brake pedal backing out of a parking space, and the damn "lights" light didn't come on. I figured it'd just burnt out, but looking at the reflection of my rear end in the windows of my store, the son of a gun is working now. It's crazy.
Is my car magic, am I a wizard? Do I get a trophy for fixing three problems in one shot?

 

So does the junk yard have any other magic parts? If you can find one I'd really like a self filling gas tank.

 

On the lookout for a few of those.

 

Maybe your new turn signal switch was in fact, a magic wand.

In all seriousness, it sounds like a grounding/contact issue inside your old turn signal stalk.
