Default Which Manual For 740?

I recently bought a 1991 Volvo 740 and I'd like to know which would be the best manual to buy. Should I invest in Chilton's, Haynes or something else? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Bill

I've been told the Bentley series are the best but they are a bit pricey. I am sure others in the forum will share advice about what book as well as hands on experience advice to help you with any work you plan to do. Good luck.

Haynes manuals are my preference as they are based on a complete tear down of the car. I have Chiltons' as well and both manuals can let you down at times. I just replaced the power steering pump and hoses on my 740 GL, and the manuals were no help at figuring out where and how the hoses plug in. Bentley is very detailed but quite pricey...

Online Bentley link,

I like the Haynes.

The FAQ files are better though.

The Haynes manuel is way too generalized often missing important details. At least this was true when I was working on my Buick. The Chiltons was a little more specific, but only slightly. Perhaps between the two, you will become so frustrated that you will realize that you could find just as much info here on the web or on this fine forum...
