I want to get rid of my power steering, anyone know where to find a non-power rack?

volvos are heavy! it might be hard to steer. i had a 88 accord, and i removed the power steering pump. bam! manual steering. without the pump the fluid stayed in the rack, which worked just fine. my garage said that this would not hurt the rack, and i ran it like that for a year before i sold the car. i dont know volvo steering systems per say, but i dont see why the same would not apply.

 

why would you wanted to do that?

 

free up hp of course! plus the feed back from the road is easier to feel, which is good if you like that.

Hi,
I converted my 244 from PS to manual using a Meyle Rack. Be prepared that you will also need to replace the steering link from the rack to the steering shaft (it's longer for manual racks) and also both balljoints.
