Default Massive leak M46

So i'm driving my 81 240 and i'm at red light and my foot accidentally slips off the clutch and BANG! A loud slam comes out from under the car as it jumps. I put my foot back on the clutch and then wait to go, as im driving i notice my its getting hard to shift.. Harder and harder. I get home and see smoke. I look under the car and i see the tranny has a bad leak. I cant see anything under the car, but i know its coming from the top of the back half of the tranny. Any clues?

i dare say you need to find yourself a new tranny, or at least start looking. but before rushing off and spending money get the car in the air or enough to get under it safely and see exactly where its leaking...it may be rebuildable. or take it to a tranny shop and have them look at it...while driving it with almost no oil in it may have damaged it beyond repair. but make sure you know where its leaking and whats goin on...no one wants to spend money they dont have to

This blows.. I just put this car on the road. It seems like its coming from the seal between the overdrive unit and the tranny itself.

You should be able to pick up a new tranny at a junkyard for fairly cheap (less than $100) if you are up to the job of putting a new one yourself.

This transmission is supprisingly easy to remove and replace. I removed my parents to replace the clutch and it took me 45 minutes to remove. You will have to turn the transmission 90 degrees after unbolting to remove. It is heavy, do not lay it on your chest like I did. I did not think I would be able to get out from under it.
