A modification question for you 240 owners
I posted on here a few months ago that I was set to purchase an '82 244 GLT, but the deal fell through when it turned out that there was rotten spot spot on the frame. So, I turned my attention to a 1990 240, midnight blue, standard transmission. The body and engine were impeccably maintained, so I ignored the odometer reading of 355,000 km and bought the car for $650. I talked him down from $1600 by promising that I was going to maintain it and keep it going for as long as I could. I then sunk $2500 into all of the work that needed to be done (most of it was undercarriage stuff - the frame is really solid) and it drives like it's straight off the lot. Needless to say, I'm glad to be back behind the wheel of a Volvo after driving a Jetta for the last year.
So...my question is this: How hard is it to swap the composite headlights on the post-'85 models with the "double"-style lights of the early 80's?? Electronics have never been my strong suit, and I'm not even sure that they are the same size. I just know that I much prefer the look of the older ones and, if it's not too difficult, would be willing to do the work or even pay to have it done. I was also wondering how easy it is to replace the silver trim that goes along the outside of the wheel wells. I always though that the 240's looked sharper with them on than off and mine are long gone. The only other plan that I have to put a decent set of rims on it. I'm looking around for some 780 rims, but they are pretty rare in my neck of the woods. Other than that, I like the look and performance of these cars just the way they are.
Any help or info is greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!!

easy is a relative term. that old trim can be a bear to fit right and STAY right. However a little glue here and there, presto, trim stays put,.
