what budget are you thinking off? do you want better suspension performance? better engine performance? interior upgrades like sound...etc.

engine performance, either find and install a complete b230FT + AW71 transmission from a 740T/940T, and bring it up to stage 0, then as many stages as you can afford (or until the driveability gets to you), or go small block ford, like swiftjustice... (see his 745T stroker article), and dial up the HP as far as you dare (he's around 400HP, I think).

Honestly, at your age...assuming you're still in school and living with the 'rents I suspect desire far outreaches your budget. Tires, brakes and shocks are all-important. If those are good, then think about springs. Lowering a car without decent shocks and suspension is a recipe for heartache. As old as these cars are, a complete exhaust is ideal but not cheap. A muffler shop should be able to weld on a glass pack for ya.
