you pretty much need a volt meter to do any testing here.
first thing I'd check is key on, but engine NOT started, and check the voltage from the smaller D+ terminal on the alternator to ground... you should see a few volts there, but not the full battery voltage. if you do NOT see any volts there, then check the BATT bulb in the instrument panel, also check the ignition switch. if you see the full battery voltage at this pin, then I suspect the alternator itself has a fried diode board
