The only cars that have been in our driveway are my wife's '90 Volvo 240DL and my '94 Chevy K3500. The other day, I found this in the driveway:
The shank is 4 inches long, 10mm diameter, with a 5/8" hex head, and it appears that the thread part is sheared off. The last 1/2" or so has a dimpled pattern creating a 'cross-hatch' just before where the threaded part is missing. I was hoping it could be identified by this cross-hatch pattern at the end.
The 10mm diameter suggests a non-US origin, which would implicate the Volvo, but it has a 5/8" head, which would imply a US origin. I know those aren't hard & fast rules, so that's why I'm asking. Does this bolt look familiar to anybody?
Have never seen that cross hatch pattern on any bolt on a Volvo.
I just found out that it is a direct match for one of the starter mounting bolts on my Chevy. I don't know what the cross-hatch pattern does for a bolt, but at least it made for an easy identification.
I haven't scooched under my truck yet, but I'm praying the sheared-off thread end isn't buried in the block somwhere.
