Default Need Correct Radiator - 1992 Volvo

Ok...still at it because of a random overheating issue (not the compensator brd in the cluster). Car is DL-240 BF-240F, non-turbo, 132k miles. This is what I found....

At 12-15 lbs (using STANT and adapter in overflow tank), rad hiss's and discharges water pretty bad at bottom where plastic meets metal. Could this be my problem? Bently book says 9-12 lbs. I drive the car and after 15 -20 mins TEMP up to almost RED, never boils but plenty hot. I stop but never see/hear hiss or liquid on the ground...real strange. However I have my heater on FULL BLAST and plenty warm, TEMP begins to come down and back at 9am. TEMP begins to reduce, less pressure, hence never see hiss and discharge on ground. Is my theory correct???/

I want to replace rad.....which one ?? FCPEuro Nissen or VOLVO ?? IPD sells NISSEN only. I do not have a sw in rad for fan (which is broke also, no rotation w/ +12 VDC applied)

I love this brick...spent way too much money on needed repairs. Which rad do I buy??

Thx,,, great forum, great people, great help

First make sure the temp reading is indeed correct--use an infrared gauge, these 240 dash gauges are unreliable... Then address a possibly bad thermostat. Then pressure check the cooling system. What makes you think you need a radiator at this point? You see no leaks, right? No evidence of a blockage...

at 15 lbs pressure, cold engine, rad is hissing on top and discharging a steady drip of water (took anti-freeze out when flushing) at base. IR gauge shows 87dC at thermostat neck when hot and at 9am, new WAHLER thermostat installed (87dC). Will point gauge at rad this afternoon.

If rad is hissing and leaking at 15 lbs pressure, rad is leaking. I would think it should not leak at 15 lbs. What do you think??.

Well, "hissing" is leaking! Then yeah, get a new one.
I'd stay away from the cheapest, Asian ones.

I just got a Blackstone for a 1987 740 I got. I looked on Ebay, the cheapest ones weren't even right for the car I have, the listing said "fits 1985-1992", wrong!
