Default Need help with 1993 940

1993 940 Gas.
Engine has died about 6 times over the past 6 months but always fires back up within a few seconds/minutes.
The other day it died for good.
It is getting fuel.
It is getting intermitent spark. About every 5 seconds as you are turning it over.
Where should I start?

Check the Black relay under the hood (noise supression relay)
Power stage might be bad.
Mass flow sensor might be bad.

Where is the relay located? Test it with a meter?

What is the power stage?

How do you test the MFS?

The relay should be by the coolant bottle. Feel for it to click when the key is turned on and the engine is cranked.

The power stage in mounted in the l/f fender

Unplug the mass flow and try to start the car if it starts and idles try plugging it back in it that stalls it the mass flow is bad.

OK, I unpluged the mass flow and it didnt help.

The relay clicks when the switch is turned on.

I cant seem to locate the power stage? Found one on Ebay used to see what it looks like but still cant find it on the l/f fender?

Upon further inspection it seems that the engine is firing but there is a strong fuel odor when I try to crank it.

The way that it died it almost acted like it ran out of gas?? It has over a 1/4 tank of gas and I can smell the fuel when trying to crank it?

Not sure? How do I go about checking that? What controls it?

The timing belt tensioner failed and shredded part of the timing belt.

Timing belt replaced and all is well.
