Default Need help with a hose classification and timing issue

Whats up everyone. I just have completed a failed head gasket job. The car wont start. I think its a timing issue. I followed the procedures of matching up the sprocket and pulley marks. My main issue is that the crank pulley notch doesn't line up at zero on the lower cover. But my cam sprocket and distributor do. So my crank is off. I was told when they are really old they start to slip and will be off but the car will still run great. I was told there was another method in figuring out timing when dealing with my issue. There is a "ridge" on the block that I can go by. I have to put the crank washers in with their keyholes lined up with this "ridge". By doing this, I am putting the car in the right time. I was also told that the timing belt doesn't have to exactly line up with the marks. Thoughts please. And also about the hose, it starts on the right side of the intake manifold. There is a metal protuberance coming off of the manifold with an insertion hole a little smaller than the end of the pinky finger. It starts there and then runs near the drivers side firewall. It connects to this white circular piece. I am unsure what hose this is and I need to replace it. Thanks all!!!!!m

3 Hours and 7 minutes is just too long to wait these days.

Read that. Post number #19 has a good picture that may help. I found that using the search string "timing belt diagram." It took less than a minute. You can find answers faster sometimes using a search.
