I have a Nissens Radiator P/N 8603894 sold by FCPEuro. It looks like a quality radiator. However upper L/H corner is a screw thread (hole) for a thermal switch. My original rad did not have this sensor switch.


What screw pitch/thread size is the sensor? Is it American or Metric thread size????. I want to install a screw plug in place of the switch sensor.


I can always install the switch and put a vinyl plug over it. Will look kinda of hokey.

everything is metric on a volvo. that said, I ahve no idea what size that plug is.

and yes, people frequently use a old thermoswitch as a plug.

I used the radiator plug and the sensor seal from ipd on my Volvos.

Lubed them with some coolant and pushed them in with channel lock pliers.

Just for added security I put a stainless steel zip tie from oreillys on the plug as well.

 

here are the options...


(a) 22 mm x 1.50 x 3/8 in tapered metric drain plug, brass w/plumbers tape

(b) use the existing thermometric sw w/ gasket provided w/ radiator. Install with plumbers tape and use a plastic (black) chair leg protector over the sw contacts. Looks ugly but it works.

 

I just ran into the same problem.

It sounds like putting the electronic fan switch into the Nissens radiator and then taping the switch up to prevent use will work?
