Need a wiring diagram
Or just the colors of the two wires I need to tap into in order to hook up a push button starter in my 88 240. I don't really NEED to do this, it just impresses the kids when they get in, then they fight over who gets to push it.
I've put one in my Suburban, a NASCAR style one. In that, one wire went to ignition, other starter. Don't see why this would be any different. So, who can tell me what colors those wires are?
I'll take pictures of the process and post em in case any of y'all out there ain't got nothin better to do with your time.

Dude that's a rad site...thanks! I suppose I could figure this out myself though...I'm no electrical genius, but...with a test light, the ignition wire should get hot (light up) when key is turned ON, and stay hot when cranking. Then the starter wire should only get hot when cranking....right?????
(yes, I guess I'm just looking for another excuse to poke and prod. :P)

the starter circuit is the wire off pin 50 of the ignition switch. Bentley's crummy schematics say its blue, another source suggests it might be pink. Its switched to + power (red)... having a simple pushbutton out there wired like this would mean you could rather easily engage the starter when the engine is running, which is probably not a real good idea.

I looked at the 1985 240 schematics on k-jet... at the back of the ignition key, the starter circuit is indeed the blue wire off pin 50, and ignition switched power is the blue-yellow wire off pin 15, so a normally open push-button between these would work nicely. if you wire it like that, then the automatic transmission starter inhibit will still work (so your starter button will only work in park or neutral). the blue wire is a 1.5mm (about 14 AWG) while the blue-yellow is a 4.0mm (about 6 AWG, a rather fat wire), so if you're going to use crimp-on vampire taps, size them appropriately. your pushbutton switch should be sized for about 20 amps, I suspect (I don't know what the starter solenoid actually draws, but thats a not-unreasonable safety margin), and you should use 14AWG wire to hook it up.
