Default New buyer of 1988 240 GL sedan

I have an opportunity to take a 240 off someone's hands soon. I'm just not sure if I should. I always loved the look of these cars but never knew anything about them and still don't. Supposedly have about 120k miles and not too much rust. It's a manual transmission which really drew me to wanting it. Supposedly it doesn't start very much but I'd need to get it in a uhaul trailer or something to bring it back. Anyone have any tips to get it running or... possible causes of it not running? Thank you all for any help. Also, are these RWD?

Better get it first. Hard to diagnose like this. 120K is very low miles. Chances are the odo is kaput, like on all 240s... Stiil, could be a decent car but you need much more info.

Hopefully for free or very little $, I've had many customers just give me their old cars - With a manual transmission you can tow with the rear wheels on the ground, automatics you can't. The 240 is a front engine rear wheel drive car. 2 manual trans were sold - a m46 that's a 4 speed with an electric overdrive or a M47 pure 5 speed. The 5 speed has a shift **** that has a 5th position. The 4 speed + has a button to shift into overdrive - those overdrive units do wear out and have expensive problems, but if it's a free car - take the chance!.

Thank you all. I was trying to find a 240 for a rwd rally car but I noticed the newer model 850 recently. Anyone of you know how they compare?

Two very different animals. 240 is a RWD Red Block motor, durable and sturdy, the 850 is not.

Yes apologies. I found the wiki page right after asking and realized the 850 isn't even rwd either. Thank you. I did find a 240 for $4k so I'm considering it. It's the real 5 speed version too.
