New Headlight lenses?
89 240- got 1 cloudy headlight, Saw a replacement headlight lens on Ebay for 25$ with free shipping. Anyone ever try this, I think the new lens glues in place. Thanks! Dave
Hey Dave,
I had a similar problem with the headlights on my 1995 940 turbo. If its only on the outside you can buy a kit from napa auto parts that has a buffer that you hook up to a drill and buff off the cloudiness. It takes about 30 minutes and costs only $12. It was a pretty drastic improvement. If the cloudiness is from the inside of the headlight then you will have to get a new one.

Why don't you try sanding the old ones first? Start with 600 grit, go to 1500 grit, end with 2500 grit. Walmart wants to do it for $40. In my case, I wound up buying complete headlight buckets on eBay for around $120. A temp fix is to rub them down with oil, in case you just need to pass inspection.

Thanks for the good ideas- never thought about sanding/buffing the outside of the lenses, I assumed it was cloudyfromthe inside. Really have nothing to lose and I have super fine paper / polishing compound at work. have you ever heard of replacing the lenses like the ebay thing? Dave
Never saw the "lens only" things. I would be a little concerned that it wouldn't work since I'm not sure what is broken not allowing the old ones hold on properly. Normally something breaks off, and they flop around on ancient Volvos.

i have used the ebay ones and yea they work but have horrible light patterns, they dont direct the light right and you cant see anything in front of you even though they are brand new...i just went to volvo and shelled out the bucks to get the right ones and theywork like you wouldnt believe, but like jsinton said, just try to wet sand them down real good and it should at least help...and its cheeper than $380 a side!! haha
