A new problem
Today I started to drive off, and there was this blockage. So I drove for a few more blocks and the same thing happened, know I am thinking its the turbo because when the car gets to the turbo yellow on the turbo gauge, the car beings to lock up. Before the car locks up, it drives fine. What can it be?
Hi kruspe,
A problem like the one you're encountering is almost impossible to diagnose on the internet. It could be a host of things causing what you're describing and I know it sure can be frustrating. Right after I bought our 91 240, it had me scratching my head for weeks. It idled great and that was it, as soon as you gave it some gas it wanted to die. I searched through wiring diagram after wiring diagram chasing wires, checking resistances, changing plugs, wires, etc. etc. After all was said and done the problem was the junk in the gas tank clogging the pickup line filter thus starving the engine of fuel. But I'm telling you it gave me a few gray hairs trying to narrow it down to that. Your problem could be fuel related (lack thereof from a blockage or bad pump), a faulty TPS, an intake duct knocked loose from the T/B, cracked distributor cap or rotor button, I mean heck, it could be just about anything. If your transmission was shifting fine before this problem arose, I would doubt it's transmission related. If you can narrow some of these items down then it just becomes a process of elimination. I wish you luck with this because I know it is frustrating. I would start with the fuel system, making sure your regulator isn't leaking and that your pumps are working good. Then I would move to the electrical side looking at the rotor cap and button. I'm sure your wires and plugs are fine because those items tend to deteriorate over time and not go out all at once like a rotor cap and button can do. Please keep me updated as to what your able to eliminate and again I wish you luck.

got it fixed. I was driving to the mechanic today and it didnt surge, it surged very little but I didnt push it. So when I got there he said it could be throttle body or dist cap/rotor/wires. So I got the cap wires done, and it works now thanks to all who helped
I thought I had the problem fixed and I didnt? The car was running fine for days until today it started to surge and that blockage happened again. Brought it back to the mechanic he thought maybe it could be turbo he will have to check it out tomorrow. He also thought it could be vaccum line, but the strage thing is when I leave the car off and then run it later the problem isnt there. unless I hit the turbo real hard then it will surge but just for a little bit is all. Does anyone think it can be the turbo? I don't see any black or white smoke?
