Default New to Volvos

Hey this is my first post but I've been reading some good info from this site. I've got a couple of pretty basic questions if anyone can help me out.

Where is the best place to but jack stands on a 94 940?

Also, I'm in college and need new tires so the cheaper the better. Can anyone suggest some fairly priced, dependable tires?

Thanks

Jack stands put best under real axle for the back, and the spots that look like a frame rail about 6-8 inches inboard from the jack points-where the jack hooks up, in the front.
Cheapest tires are from used tireshops that are pretty much everywhere. You can get 4 decent tires for that car for $100 if you try those... That should include mounting and balancing-can't beat it!

Thanks tedv, I need to change the oil soon so it's good to know where to put the stands.

Are used tire places actually legit? Are there specs they have to go by or something? Also, what if they had the right size but they weren't all the same brand....problem?

thanks again

Well, like anything, do your due dilligence but generally they are OK, and for the money you can't beat them. A set of tires or even two by two of the same brand and ALL of the same size of course, that look like they have good tread, and are mounted and ballanced, you'll know right away if they drive OK. Actually a lot of people use these types of places, especially for cheap cars. Does it make sense to spend $400+ on a thousand dollar car? Not even! I don't know where you live but here on the West Coast used tires places are plentiful. Some even import their tires in containers direct from Europe where laws are stricter as far as tread and so on...

Cool, thanks for the info! Greatly apprechiated...I think you just saved me a couple hundered bucks!

So I should try to get at least the fronts as the same brand and the backs as the same brand?

I'll call around and see what I can do...thanks agian

do them in pairs; most shops should be able to handle that, especially in common sizes like what the volvos take...
