Default New to volvo's

Hello, I sure am happy to a forum for these cars. I have not opened my tool box for years, except minor tune ups. But Volvo's are different to me I played with old chevy’s. But my wife loves the fact Volvo’s are like a tank. And will not look at anything but the older 240 for the kids. There first car. But I have two questions to start. We just bought an 85 240 dl wagon. It has new front brakes on it but the rears where not done. It feels like it needs a master cylinder the brake is a like soft and sneak to the floor at a long stop light. But the other concern is if you sit with the brake pushed firmly for 20 or more seconds and then let go the rpm drops so low it almost stalls. If anyone here has any idea's I would sure appreciate it. Thank you

Well first off these cars are just as simple as a Chevy so don't be daunted by that. Brake work is easy, you could have a leaking diaphram on your brake booster by the sounds of it.

I would inspect the condition of this thing:

Its threads into the booster. I would also take a close look at the vaccum line between the booster and the intake. Listen for a hissing noise with the pedal applied.

Thank you both. I'll get a chance this weekend. The book that I have did not suggest anything but replace the master and re bleed the brakes.
