Default no bulb out condition at dash

I have a HELLA 1362367 bulb out indicator (RED). P/N 5KG 004 919-04 installed in my 1992 DL-240 VOLVO. purchased on Ebay and guranteed to work

When i remove the rear back-up lamp (r/r) no light-out on the dash. What is going on???

when I remove a rear brake lamp, (r/r) no light-out condition on the dash. What is going on??

I choose r/r because its easy to remove r/r cover over bulbs, l/r is a bear since spare tire interfers with bulb cover

I choose to install another like unit because of the constant on-off blinking of the bulb-out light on the dash. I thought the bulb out indicator (red) might have become "tired" after 26 years.

Any ideas?

will t/s some more and tell you what I find.

thx...abro

Are you testing the new relay? How's the old relay? Try disconnecting head lights, etc. If the old relay is OK, it's all good...

Default [Solved] - Wrong Bulb Failure P/N

Well wonders never cease.

My 1992 VOLVO DL-240 has the wrong bulb failure relay. I need p/n 1362370 manufactured by HELLA or KAE. The wrong one installed is p/n HELLA 1362367. This p/n is for older VOLVOs.

This probably caused the random 'Bulb Out" condition at the cluster. I experienced random blinks when I brake or use the directional signals. I have a used and correct p/n ordered. Hopefully all will be well again.

Thx for the help and comments. Great forum.

I have the same issues. Bulb out indicator blinks in concert with my right directional. Doesn't do it when parking lights or headlights are on. The bulbs are working as they should even when the bulb indicator out is saying I have a bulb out.

This is something new. Could my issues be a relay going bad? Or do they just work or not work? The car only has 89,000 miles so I would suspect the relay is correct and original. Last question, where is the bulb out relay located?

I found the relay with a bit of searching.

they work by measuring the current difference between the left and right bulbs. turn signals shouldn't even be connected to it, but if the parking lights were on at th esame time, they ARE connected to it, and maybe the ground on the right bulb is sketchy, so the right turn signal is changing the current for the right parking light...

I replaced both bulbs and the issue seems to have gone away, well, until it reappears that is. I see people hard-wire the rear taillights because of issues, but my question is, do the issues go away if you just put in new circuit boards?

using a bit of caig "Deoxit" on all the contact surfaces can really help.
