help NO ELECTRIC TOO FUEL PUMP ,CHECKED FUSES ,under hood 1,fuse panel 2,replaced fuel pump relay with a used 1,still no pump pumping ,jumpered wire from fuse 6 too fuse 4 and it runs hmmmm...******* what can i do next rig it up too run it ,what could it be a bad used relay ,2 relays bad?soldered 1 still didnt work, any ideas im really not a Volvo tec.just trying too help a friend out thanks K.H. O YEAH 90 240 DL
Nope nothing no power too pumps,I have a new 3rd relay on the way ,it will be the first new one these others are very used,Im thinking a loose wire ,I was thinking wires on the coil or a ground ,but I jumped the fuses number 4 too 6 it started and ran fine ,so i think that eliminated the ground ,possibility, could I leave the jumper wire in place and run it like that?I would hate too create another problem.this is my first volvo,I kinda like the machine ,Im actually just working on it for a friend ,but I may find me one Volvo.Irode Triumph motorcycles for 15 years ,let me rephrase that I was a Triumph mechanic for 15 years LOL,AND THEY TOO ARE JUST A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. Any help would be appreiated thankyou very much for replying,K.H.
Hey just got back on that 240 DL,yes if I close the contact on one side of the relay a pump runs and runs dosent shut off ,then the other side of the relay just buzz,s when I close the contacts,Ive looked at alot of wires on this one,the pumps both run tested at the pumps if I jump them at the pumps and if I touch a wire from fuse 6 too 4 ,4 for some reason is getting no electric unless jumped, should I test the ignition coil for any reason,Im lost here but not giving up,how about the ignition swith ,Fuel injection box?,the car will run if I jump fuse 4 too 6,Help Im lost in a brick!
Distributer pick up or speed senser ,not sure ,my first volvo,on the back on the head or belhousing, dont know what either look like ,Volvo they are absolutely different ,thankyou I will look at a speed senser on line, thankyou for your time.
The speed sensor if it has one it mounted on the back of the engine. It looks like it screws to the top of the bellhousing.
If it has a pickup in the Dist. there will be a plug going to the dist.

Thanks alot no theres nothing in the distributer I had that apart ,the cap off too look inside ,no wires anyway so,when I get back next week I shall look for the speed sensor?wow I really never would have thought it would have much too do with the power too the fuel pumps ,But you know much more than I do,so I will try too find one ,Is it called a speed sensor? or do parts suppliers call it by another name ,I keep finding this wheel sensor for anti lock brakes.
Yeah man,I think it may be called (camshaft speed sensor) on the top of the bell, black thing mounted on a flimsey tin thing back there looks easy too break off if its stuck after i get the bolt out ,I dont think I will pull on its wires, just spray it with pb blaster let it set a while, well thankyou again i will get back too this next week, you been a big help.
You may think IM CRAZY but today I was working at work DAA,and I was thinking about this Volvo thats haunting me ,you know that new relay does click, but the pump dosent come on ,I have the speed sensor on the way via Ebay 20 bucks with shipping, good deal but ,if the relay is clicking ,do I really need that? What I need is a wiring diagram of the fuel system, well guess saturday I will put on the speed sensor ,got it reasonable enough ,I imagime the one on it is original equipment, what do you think, thankyou. K.H.
Hey; got her going,The ECU is not grounding the relay,so I ran a ground wire with a switch too the relay,It will do for now till the old fellow gets the money for a ECU,Thanks for all the help.K.H.
