Default No Power in 740 GLE

I started my 1988 740 GLE w/ 286,000 miles tonight and everything seemed OK, but when I put it in gear and pressed the accelerator the car didn't want to go at first. After about 5 seconds, it finally started to move. It continued doing this everytime I pulled out from a stop sign or redlight. It has no power when I go up a hill. When traveling on level terrain, it seem to accelerate OK. The car seemed to idle OK. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong?

Check the tranny fluid level. If it's ok, then it may be time for a new transmission...

Also try putting in a new air filter.
