Default OD off

Returning home in my ’93 240 SW from a 1500 mile trip almost all of which was interstate with less than a mile to go and while still on an interstate doing about 60 my transmission down shifted and the orange OD arrow light came on.

From driving it since this happen I can’t get the OD to come back on or the orange OD arrow light to go off. The OD is clearly off at this point.

What do I do now?

There are a two things you can do.

First, would be to find out if the relay or solenoid went bad. Or if it is something in the wiring.

Second would be to just by a by-pass plate and make it so that you are always have the overdrive. This is the best way to go unless you might have a trailer that you pull with the car. It is also the most cost effective way.

That is very good to hear. I am glad that you have had a great experience with us and if there is anything you ever need or questions you may have, just let me know.

As for the OverDrive issue. To check to see if it is the relay, take the relay out and place a piece of wire across the relay terminal so that power will flow to the solenoid. Take the car for a drive like this and see if the car shifts into 4th. If it does, it is the relay. If it does not, it is the solenoid. If you look on the relay, it will tell you which terminal is which so that you can place the wire in the correct location.

Check the fuse first.

There is a small white wire that passes through the transmission tunnel from inside the car, down to the solenoid. Lots of times that wire becomes frayed and shorts out. Or the solenoid is drawing too much current.

+1, if the wires look good, replace the solenoid.
