i change my oil evry 10000 km. ( ca 6500 miles )
you can use half syntetic oil.
under your enegine, there is a plug ( 24mm screv i belive )
realise this one and all your oil will come out. but remember to change your oil filter at the same time.
merry x mas..

If you can find a peacock on your radiator use that, if not, I've always just taken the lower hose off. It will drain the biggest motor in just a few seconds. Be sure to have a pan that can hold all the coolant though, or your gonna have a big mess in a few seconds. While its off, I always flush my radiator with a hose to clear out any debis that have acummulated. You'd be amazed what can work its way in there.
As far as your oil goes, auto guys can bicker back and forth for hours on what to use. I live in Western Washington so our winters aren't bad(low 40s with showers right now). I use 10-30W in my volvo, and 10-40W in my truck. I stick to Castrol Syntec and change the oil every 3K with the filter(not a Fram, I use Napa Gold filters). You might want to consider synthetic or a synthetic blend because its less likely to break down in temperture extremes, and it reduces much more friction. What weight to use can be dependent on what tempertures you drive in(in the summer months I'll run 20-50W in my truck), but as a general rule 10-30W should work fine. Only use a block heater if your motor is in danger of actually freezing. The heat in the motor all night long will keep the vicosity of the oil high, which will make it drain off internal parts making for harsh starts. Thats my opinion. Hope it helps
One more thing, I always clean my oil bucket before I drain the oil into it, that way you can inspect it for metal flakes, sludge or any other signs of problems. While your down there its a good time to take a look at bushings, tranny leaks, etc. etc.. Just one advantage to doing it yourself instead of the 18 year old down at Jippy Lube.
