Opposite problem with my gas gague...
Mine will rise slightly when engine starts (to about the empty position) ans will stay there regardless of the amount of gas in the tank. I figured that it just may be disaconnected, but I figured that it wouldn't move at all if it didn't work. Anybody have this same problem?? Also, is the relay for the gague under the carpet by the back window?? That's where is was on my 240. Thanks!!

Sounds like the float is stuck. It only takes a few minutes to remove the whole pickup assembly, it can get a little messy though so be sure to have plenty of rags handy when you remove it from the tank. It takes a while for the smell of fuel to go away if it gets on your trunk carpet, please don't ask how I know.
Oh yeah, be sure that you have 1/2 tank or less when you remove the pickup assemblyor else you run the risk of REALLY making a mess...and no I don't have personal experience with making that mess...

Hey JetTech - thanks for the reply. I was kind of just hoping that the sensor was unplugged when I got my fuel pump relay replaced, but it appears to be hooked up. Looks like it probably is the float.
Oddly enough, the censor worked great before I brought the car to the garage but the mechanic refuses to take any kind of responsibility for it not working. Sucks.
Thanks again!!

Hey Ian, unless the mechanic physically removed the fuel sending unit I doubt he had anything to do with it not working now. It's probably just one of those things....Good luck with it and make sure to report back what you found so it could possibly help another volvo owner with the same problem.
