Default Overdrive problems

I have a 1988 240 and have recently replaced the overdrive solinoid (expensive - $266.00 just for the part!). It's located on the top of transmission and is not hard to do, but cleanliness is the key. Now I need to replace the wiring from the shift lever to the electical connection that goes to the solinoid. The wiring was rubbing against the driveshaft and wore through. I managed to splice the wires together for a quick fix, but it won't last. Does anyone have any experience or advise for changing this wire? I think the shift lever has to come apart and I'm not sure how to go about this. Any help will be appreciated.

Default RE: Overdrive problems

It has been a while But I think it goes through a rubber grommet in the shifter bucket. If so you can feed the wire from outside to inside then Put a connector inside or solder which ever you like.
