i have a poor idle and acceleration the exhaust smells like its fuel rich i screwed with the timing a while back when i did a tune up and it was running well but it has progressivly gotten worse.

my air box was broken and missing the thermostat so i put on a cone filter and the catalytic converter was falling off so i just straight piped it i dont know if any of that would affect performance

 

Year and model would be helpful. Was there an oxygen sensor on the cat you took off? if so, I assume you put one in the straight pipe. If not, then that's probably your problem.

 

1983 245 there is a O2 sensor just after the manifold but thats it
