Default Power Steering Unit

Hi Folks,
Last May I bought a 240 GL Wagon as I had owned one a few years ago and found it very useful. This one has already cost me quite a bit but I love it and want to make it a 'keeper'. Unfortunately the rack and pinion seals are screwed and I don't have a clue where to get it reconditioned at a fair price. Repco want $1780 but I do get $580 back when I bring in the old one. Does anyone know of a better alternative?

Oh Dang....now I'm told the solenoid for selecting overdrive is defunct and a newie is $300. Does that sound a fair price? Anyone know of a good spares outlet for this model?

Oh, and thanks onryboy - looks good.....

IPDusa.com sells a metal plate you could install to bypass the soleniod all together. It makes overdrive work like on a car without a soleniod system.

Repco are a giant rip off, I used to work for them. 200% markups are common. And their racks OFTEN came back from workshops who had ordered them with faults.
Look in teh Yellow pages under steering box or steering and suspension reconditioners and repairers, and start calling around. Pick the one that sounds like they know what they're talking about.

Regards, andrew.
