Problem with rear calipers for 96 960
I am a huge Volvo enthusiast and have my own Volvo garage.
I have a problem that eats me up.
I have 96 960. Rear calipers seized and completely destroyed rear rotors.
I also have a 1991 Volvo 960 that is my parts car. It seems like it has different calipers and parking brake shoes. I am currently shopping for calipers to replace. Can someone who knows answer my question:
"Caliper from which year of 960 will work on my 1996 960? How many different types of calipers available for 960?".
Thank you in advance
Serge

a 1996 960 is IRS, right? afaik, those are way different in back than any 240/740/940 and you probably should post this over in the 960/s90/v90 forum.
my parts catalog says a multilink (IRS) 1996 960 uses brake caliber 9140394 and disks 1359290. TascaParts.com says thats a $168 caliber, and fits 95/96 960s, and a bunch of V70/S70/C70 (!) models. the rotors are $30 at tasca (note these prices are a substantial discount from standard dealer retail).
there are also repair kits listed for those calibers. the pistons and seals are kit 271572 ($50), and the slider pins are 271108 ($35).
if your 960 is NOT an IRS, these may not be the right numbers. In fact they might not be the right numbers either way, VERIFY WITH YOUR SUPPLIER.

phew. I usually get my volvo parts from TascaParts.com (real Volvo OEM parts from a dealer at a discount) or quality aftermarket stuff from volvo specialists like FCP Euro or IPD USA. only used parts I've gotten are ones I've inspected and pulled myself from a pick-n-pull, or ones I've gotten from fellow forum or mail list members who vouch for their condition. brakes are too important to mess with.
