Problem starting 740 when hot? try this
Found easy fix for my hot starting problem.
I have a 1990 740 4cyl. 125,000mihad it since new. This past yearit developed a "would not start problem after it sat for about 15 min post drive". It would turn over fine but no start. I could smell gas so i figured it was flooded, somtimes it would start by holding the gas pedal down while cranking. Always started fine in the morning when cold, I read all the posts here i could on the subject even bought a junk yard RT relay, pulled all the injectors and looked for dripping injectors and all looked good. BUT! when all the injectors were all out I would get fuel dripping out of the coldstart injector port. What? where is this comming from? Only thing still attached to the intake manifold was the vacuum line from the pressure reg on the end of the fuel rail. Pulled the hose off the end of the regulator and drip drip drip drip drip fuel out of the end of the regulator. This should not be! I found my flooding problem. Bought anew reg$60 bucks and never had a problem with hot starting again.
So if you have this same problem? checkthe end of your regulator for fuel dripping. If fuel is dripping out. replace it.
Caution,Check this when the car is cold, Turn the key on to energize the fuel pump (do not turn over) and then turn it off.
hold a rag under the fuel regulator and pull off thesmall vacuum hose on the end to check.
Good luck... TUMKIKI San Diego
