a V70r is most certainly not a 240/740/940, none of which ever had steering wheel controls.

 

hey guys im looking for wiring diagram for my 1988 740 sedan. just pulled the stock cassette player and radio out to find the 8 pin input (9 pins one free slot with no wiring). im trying to match the coulours up so i was wondering if anyone had the colour schemes against wire functions. the colours running to the multi pin plugin are as follows; Grey, Orange, Green, Blue Yellow, N/A (no wire input), red, White+blue stripe, Blue+White Stripe. ground wire is separate by the looks of it. any info or tips on where to start would be appreciated
edit: found the model no for the radio. its CR-4221 (volvo stereo)

 

i don't have wiring diagrams for 740's (other than 91/92 which are effectively 940s) but odds are pretty good there's also an amplifier up behind the dash, to the far left, above where the clutch pedal would be if you had one.

best way to wire those is to use a harness like this,

one of those plugs in where the amp is, the other (the right one in the pic with the grey, purple, green, white wires) plugs in where you show above, and the wires go to your stereo.

oops, I got the plugs wrong. the one with the green, grey, violet, white wires is the speaker connections, that plugs in where the amp is, the OTHER one has the power and stuff, and plugs in where the factory radio was.
