About a month ago my '89 240 got backed into by a lady in an '85 Oldsmobile. Needless to say, her car won the battle. My car is still 100% drivable and other than a smashed turn signal cover, working fine. Now, her insurance company cut me a check and I used to to purchase an '86 parts car(I got a good deal on it). The problem is finding a body shop that will take the parts off my parts car and use them to fix mine. I don't have my bodywork experience, and my Chiltons manual isnt much, so I was hoping you guys could help me. I've included some pictures; what is the best way to go about getting the bumper and fender off the parts car? Is the fender welded to anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

The Bumper should be held on by 4 nuts on each side to the bumper shock.
The fender follow around the Edge and remove the Bolts.
Does the 86 car look exactly like yours or does it have the 4 headlights?

 

hi dsm2nr203, I think you need to take it to a shop. They will help you fix your car problem. There are also online auto shop in the internet that gives information about car problem, you can search it. My friend's brother also had problem with his Volvo 240 bumper. Hopefully, he can fix it this weekend.

 

As long as there isn't any frame misalignment, and it doesn't look too bad in the picture, there is no reason why you couldn't do it yourself. Both bumpers and fenders are super easy to take off with basic tools-just get into it! Take the grille, the corner lights, the headlights, and you should be able to see the light! You may have to hammer here and there but that's how the shops do it.
