Default Removing roof liner from 240 wagon

My roof rack bolts have come through the roof at the back and I need to remove the liner of the roof to get to the nuts, etc.

It seems that the liner is held with some type of metal rim that bends noticeably when I try to pry it off. . don't want to wreck it.

Does anyone have experience with removing the roof liner in a 240 wagon?

Steve

I shudder at the thought of removing the roof liner of a 20-ish year old car.

for what its worth, I reattached one of the roof rack towers on my son's old 940SE wagon via a pair of modified 'toggle bolts' installed from topside. I had to trim the 'ears' of the toggle bolt as there wasn't sufficient room on the inside for the stock toggle to open, and I used a larger diameter bolt than that size toggle bolt was meant for (which required retapping the hole in the 'nut' of the toggle to the bigger size). I also sealed it up with liberal application of RTV (silicone aquarium sealant). the rubber gasket that goes between the tower and the roof was missing, so I cut a new one from a bicycle fat-tire inner tube, also used RTV on both sides of that just to be on the safe side.
