Replacing a clutch on an '83 240: making the 90 degree rotation
Hello again,
My son's '83 240 is going to need a clutch soon. I've done clutches before, mostly in vintage Chevys, which are a piece of cake.
I've read the procedures in my manual about the process. The only thing that concerns me is the apparent 90 degree rotation that must be made before the trans will drop out. How do most of you accomplish this? I'm assuming that the trans must be supported during this rotattion?
Thanks,
monty

You won't have any problem. You turn it 90 degrees so the top of the transmission will clear the body. It comes right out, but it is heavy. I set it on my chest and then I was trapped until I could slide sideways from under it. One of the easier transmissions I have ever removed. I think it took me 45 minutes.
