Default Replacing turn signal bulb

I have a 1990 760 turbo and am having a heck of a time figuring out how to replace the bulb on the front turn signal. Is the housing supposed to come out? Am I supposed to be able to access the bulb from inside the engine compartment? I had no problems with the rear bulb replacement, but can't seem to understand the front.

I believe you unscrew the plastic covers from the outside for the front turn signals, and the bulbs bayonet. I could be wrong tho, its been quite awhile since I had to change one on a 7/9 except the 1990 940SE in our driveway thats my sons old car, and has both front turn signal lens covers broken.....

this is the sort of thing that I'd think would be in the Owners Manual, for what little thats worth.

The front corner bulb/light assembly comes out pretty easy if I remember correctly. The light has a tab that has to be pushed aside a little as you pull the light assembly out. Then the bulb twist out of the light assembly.

Exactly correct! It was difficult to see the gray little latch but once I found it the bulb housing came out quite easily. Strange after replacing the bulb the yellow light does not come on during full headlights on but the blinker works perfectly, and now the other side is flashing quickly, does that mean the flashing quick one will need replacing soon?

Most likely you have a bad ground. The one on the other side flashing quickly? Check the signal bulb at the rear. Flashing quickly generally indicates a bulb out.

the 940 front corner lights are dual filament bulbs. the dim filament should be on with the parking or headlights, while the bright filament is the flasher.

on a 760? in the main relay panel. if its an early 760, its behind the fuses, which are behind the ashtray, you need to remove the cigar lighter+tray thats above the ashtray for better access. if its a later 760, then its like the 960, and the fuses are on the end of the dashboard near the drivers door, and the relays are on the passenger side of the tranmission hump, remove the passenger side kick panel under the dash for access.

I believe the specific relay location is on the owners manual, but if not, I can probably look it up, given the year of the car.

that said, if ANY lights are blinking, then the blinker is probably good. the corner lights have two filaments, one is on with the parking lights or head lights, while the OTHER one is the blinker. I'd be looking at corroded light socket contacts before anything else.

I think you might be right about the corroded socket ...

when I changed the corner lights on my sons old 91 940SE which has broken lenses on both front turnsignals, I had to do a fair amount of scraping to get all 4 filaments to light correctly. I'm selling the car at a loss, so I'm not fixing the lenses (or a bunch of other minor cosmetic things on this car).

are dual filaments necessary for turn signal bulbs? The auto parts store gave me bulbs I am sure are not dual even though they looked up which bulb I should get, will this effect the fuses or wiring adversely? I popped the new bulbs in and now the signals work, not sure why they worked when they weren't before. It might be the battery connection is corroded, they blink just don't stay on (im assuming they must not be dual filament!) but I do have a light that says the bulb is out (but they are on!)

depeends on the car and application. look in the socket, does it have two contacts or one in the middle? or look at the old bulb, does it have two contacts on the bottom, and the pins on the side are offset?

the front corner lights on a 940 are definitely dual filament.

oh, also, you want to use chrome base bulbs and not brass base ones. the brass ones will fit and work, but they will corrode much faster.

I also think you installed the wrong bulb. Happens a lot with old cars. You may have to get them from the stealer.

Default Dual filament bulbs

The reason they have dual filament bulbs is that it is two lights in one. One set of filaments is for the flasher, the other the parking/running lamp.

This saves having to fit/use two bulbs into the housing.
